=v= It's out just in time for the Xmas Resistance Non-Shopping Season: What Would Jesus Buy? is a documentary about Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping, who last year went on a nationwide tour to the heart of the nation's Shopocalypse.The movie might well be playing at a theatre near you. =v= It's a bit of a conundrum here in San Francisco because the movie is showing on Buy Nothing Day. However, if you are an elf and want to join the Buy Nothing Day Elf Strike, you can get a free ticket. Contact andy dot blue at yahoo dot com for details.
(Yes, there's an Elf Strike going on. Elf Thumper is refusing to update this blog, so that's why I have to do it.)
=v= Word is they have enough elves for the strike, but all are invited to join in solidarity with the strikers, Friday at Noon at the Powell & Market turnaround.
San Franciscans who want to see the movie can get tickets online if they wish to avoid buying them on Buy Nothing Day. "Chicken John" Rinaldi has suggested that people buy them and not attend ("If the theatres are sold out, and half empty, ... we have a new innovative way to influence power."), but I think that if folks want to buy extra tickets they might as well hand them out to folks for free.
=v= The Elf Strike was a success. We may be able to negotiate Elf Thumper's return, especially as elf labor conditions are much better with Satanta than at Satan's Sweatshop.
Reverend Billy has come to San Francisco for tonight's 7:00pm screening at the Lumiere.

Those photos make me wish I and my red vinyl Satanta costume were back in SF. Alas, I'll arrive a week too late.
The elf strike was nationwide. As for your red vinyl Satanta costume, that would go a long ways towads improving elf/employer relations.

I so hate that every anti Xmas movement are so religious! You wanna know what jesus would buy for xmas? NOTHING cause jesus is a myth and a very lame one.. So since I never celebrated the birth of a mythic spiritual leader to begin with I guess that me receiving loads of stuff on is "birthday" is al fine...
Just sayin'..
.. and I would love to see Rev Bill's wallet by now!
