The San Francisco Chronicle's front-page story yesterday had a large bold headline of the sort used to announce a war victory, for an article about insane shoppers knocking themselves out on "Black Friday." Here are the opening lines:

The get-up-and-go spirit that helped America settle the West, win two world wars and put a man on the moon isn't dead. It's just gone to the mall.

It took four Chronicle staff writers to pen this drivel.

There was little about Buy Nothing Day in most of the media and not a word about the Elf Strike. (Apparently, elf-oppressors control the MSM.)

What Would Jesus Buy?

=v= It's out just in time for the Xmas Resistance Non-Shopping Season: What Would Jesus Buy? is a documentary about Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping, who last year went on a nationwide tour to the heart of the nation's Shopocalypse.

The War on Xmas

Some Fox News employee has published a book about some sort of "War on Christmas." Apparently he's unhappy about the kind of things a Fox News employee would be unhappy about. The book echoes sentiments from the John Birch Society in the 1950s ("Where's Baby Jesus? The Commies got him!") which were themselves minor rehashes of screeds written by Henry Ford and his ilk in the 1920s ("Where's Baby Jesus? The Jews kidnapped him!")

The book lives up to Fox News journalistic standards, of course, citing various anti-Christmas (and pro-"Holiday") atrocities that, um, never happened. Turns out there actually isn't any War On Christmas going on, but to keep the right-wing moonbats from sulking, the folks at Beyond Belief Media thoughtfully declared one.

Interesting that Fox News would concoct a war just in time to distract attention from a real war that isn't going so well. You decide: Peace on Earth or a continued War on Terra?

So we're seeing all sorts of comments about Mercury and Saturn in the Comments posting and also in the Mailbag. Where did this come from? I don't remember any mention of these two fellas in previous years.

Is there some sort of Christmas-is-a-Pagan-Conspiracy potboiler out there this year or something?
